The Medical Officer of Health is defending the role out of flu vaccine locally after an anonymous letter was sent out ripping the process. The scathing unsigned letter from “concerned employees of Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit,” claims people not in priority groups have been immunized, staff weren’t properly protected at vaccination clincs and vaccine was wasted. Doctor Richard Schabas says the letter is unfortunate and hard to address…he tells the Intell that a “Ministry of Labour order” filed against the health unit is being appealed. and, says they had the highest coverage rates for the H1N1 vaccine of any southern Ontario health unit. He believes the local Health Unit did a great job.
