The following information was released by the Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit on Friday, Nov.13, 2009.
Changes have been made to the way in which children will receive H1N1 vaccinations.
The Hastings & Prince Edward Counties Health Unit asks parents to
consult the following guidelines:
If your child is younger than six months of age:
The H1N1 vaccination is not given to children under six months old.
If your child is six months or older but has not turned three years
old:
Your child will need a total of two half-doses of the H1N1 vaccine (at
least 21 days apart.)
If your child is between the ages of three and nine years old:
The number of shots needed depends on the health of your child (see below).
If your child is healthy then only one half-dose of vaccine is needed.
If your child has already had their H1N1 shot, they do not need the
second dose.
If your child has a chronic health condition, then two half-doses of
the vaccine are needed, at least 21 days apart.
If your child is 10 years or older, only one dose of H1N1 vaccine is needed.
