Northumberland County’s fire coordinator wants a new consolidated communications system that could cost as much as two-million dollars.
Al Mann, who is also Cobourg’s fire chief, says the proposed three-channel V-H-F simulcast system would eliminate black holes in fire radio coverage and paging transmissions.
There are now three different dispatch systems in Northumberland, and some private contractors handle more than just the agreement to dispatch for fires and medical assistance.
Each municipality in the county, and County Council, would have to agree before the request for proposals could be issued.
