Parking in downtown Belleville will still be free this December…but you could drop coins in the meter to support a local charity. The Hastings and Prince Edward School Board’s Food for Learning Foundation came up with the idea of seeking dontations from motorists using the free parknig spaces in the downtown next month. Signs will indicate it’s a volunteer donation for school breakfast programs, not a parking fee. But Councillor Jackie Denyes says it opens the door to other charities coming forward with requests while the city city still doesn’t have a policy on how to deal with charity requests.
