It’s said the only two things certain in life are death and taxes…..well if you plan it right you can cut some of those taxes on your death.
The province says the new harmonized sales tax coming in next July will not apply to “pre-paid” funeral and cemetery contracts….saving eight percent. Richard Steele of Steele’s Funeral Home says many people waited too long when the GST was being added to funerals and couldn’t get theirs pre-paid before the new tax was added. Steele says that last year only about 22-percent of funeral contracts in the Quinte area were pre-paid.
