It isn’t encouraging news from the Director of Community and Social Services in Northumberland County.
Mark Darroch told County Council yesterday the welfare caseload increased by 16 per cent between January and September, and he doesn’t expect significant improvement for another year.
He said laid off workers have experience in a particular type of employment, but many lack higher education and skills training, including computers, needed for today’s economy.
