The Mayor of Stirling Rawdon, Peter Kooistra, says he and council are relieved to have settled two major issues in the community.
By a vote of 3 to 1, Stirling Rawdon Council chose to stay with their current Stirling Rawdon Police, rejecting proposals from the Ontario Provincial Police. Only Councillor Marian Bastedo voted against the local service.
And, Council was unanimous in it’s support for the community board of directors running the Stirling Festival Theatre. This was in reaction to an offer by the former artistic director, Caroline (wine) Smith and her husband, to run the theatre as a private business.
Mayor Kooistra says the volunteer board has done a great job over the years, and breaking up the board and breaking a lease would just lead to a waste of tax dollars on legal fees.
