It’s another sign that winter is fast apporaching…the Trent-Severn Waterway shuts down for the season later today. Manager of Canal Operations, Jack Alexander, says there were about 121,600 vessel lockages to the end of September, up by nearly 900 from last year. Numbers for October aren’t available yet.
The weather was poor for most of the time since the waterway opened in May, although Alexander says lower gas prices than a year earlier probably helped the numbers.
