There was a general alarm fire at a Belleville landmark yesterday afternoon. Around 40 full time Belleville firefighters responded to a fire call at St Micheal’s Academy, at Victoria and Pinnacle. There were flames in the former Convent’s 3rd floor ceiling. One crew remained on the scene overnight, watching for hotspots. Damage was extensive, but confined to the top floor of the Academy, mostly in the ceiling. There is no damage estimate, and the cause is being investigated today. No one was injured. The St Micheal’s Academy is vacant and under renovation.
