A retired Belleville Nortel Networks employee summed it up for hundreds of the company’s former workers at a rally in Toronto.
Mary-Jane MacKinnon, who retired two years ago after 30 years at the Sidney Street plant, told reporters at the Queen’s Park protest yesterday she has been wondering about the future of her loved ones since January, when the company entered bankruptcy protection.
They were asking the provincial government to secure their rights to full and protected pensions, severance pay and benefits during the sale of Nortel’s global assets.
McKinnon took a reduced pension in 2007 to make sure her husband, who doesn’t have his own pension, would have a survivor’s benefit.
