Mixed feelings in a standing room only crowd last night in Stirling. Up for discussion was who would police Stirling/Rawdon, the OPP, or the current municipal police service. Reaction from speakers and from the crowd of over 200 showed support for both groups. Mayor Peter Kooistra said Council has a tough decision ahead, and one it’s likely to make at it’s next meeting October 19th. The OPP presented two proposals, one for a stand alone detachment, needing a police station, costing 530 dollars per household, and one smaller group integrated with Central Hastings OPP, costing 294 dollars per household. The current local police quoted at 370 dollars per household.
