A Trenton man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for importing 493 pounds of marijuana into the United States.
Thirty-two-year-old Dawson Wood was arrested on March 30th, 2008, at a rest area near Erie, Pennsylvania, by officers who followed his tractor-trailer after it crossed the border at the Lewiston-Queenston bridge near Niagara Falls.
He was convicted in Buffalo Federal Court of unlawful importation of more than 100 kilograms of marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and fraudulent importation of marijuana .
The drugs would have had a street value of more than 3.4-million dollars. Wood will be turned over to immigration authorities for deportation after he serves his prison term.
