Belleville is making a strong bid for a surplus vehicle owned by the joint Hastings-Quinte Emergency Services. Belleville councillor Bob Dolan was instrumental in stopping a recent move by the EMS to donate a surplus ambulance to the Red Cross. Dolan says municipalities should have first bid. Police chief Cory McMullan told the Police Services Board, chaired by Dolan, that such a vehicle would be helpful as an emergency command post during fires or major crimes. The police and fire chiefs have written a joint letter to EMS asking for the ambulance.
