A new program in Hasting-Quinte will focus on helping people who find it particulary difficult to find work.
Fifty-five percent of people on welfare fall into what’s called a “vulnerable group”…including people with disabilities, mental health issues and at-risk youth. Deputy director for Social Services, Steve Gatward, says the youth group, 16-to-30 years, will benefit from the new program because it offers more intense counselling to help them move on to jobs. The province is providing $356-thousand dollars…four extra case-workers will be hired for the program.
