About 100-delegates from seven different countries are attending a post-secondary education conference at the First Nations Technical Institute on Tyendinaga Territory this week. The delegates are discussing issues specific to indigenous students. Those issues include language needs and the importance of early childhood native language education. FNTI assistant academic dean, Leslie Spencer, says FNTI has a special day program where children learn Mohawk as a first language rather than as a second language. She says the delegates, from as far away as Australia and Taiwan, also want more recognition for their institutions.
