A 12-million dollar proposal for a “cultural centre” in Picton includes a half-million dollar upgrading of Picton Public Library.
Chief Librarian Barbara Sweet says it will mean adding space and improving access to the facility, and deal with ice-damming problems in the 101-year-old Carnegie library. The proposal includes expanded seating for the Regent Theatre and a cultural centre in privately-owned space between the Regent and the Library. Sweet says some library-sponsored events could be held in the cultural centre. If successful, an application for federal stimulus funding would mean federal, provincial and private money would cover the cost, with no funding from the municipality..
