One of the parent companies for Canada Talc mine, that operates in the Madoc area, has been fined 95-thousand dollars on an environmental charge from last year.
Ministry of Environment spokesperson Kate Jordan says Highwood Resources Limited was found guilty of “failing to carry out the sampling and analysis required of the mine’s de-watering discharge.” Five other environmental charges were withdrawn. The company has 90-days to pay. Environmental investigators alleged that the Canada Talc mine’s de-watering sysem pumped water directly into Moira Lake before being treated. Operators of the mine still face eleven Ministry of Labour charges following the death of an employee, 22-year old Justin Rogers, last summer. That goes to court September first.
