Residents in Belleville’s east end say they intend to fight any plans by the owner of the former Bakelite property to run a scap-metal business at the site. Larry Pope, who lives next door says it’s not just metal on the site but items such as T-Vs and refrigerators that could affect the water quality in the Bay of Quinte.. Pope is urging residents of the area to attend the city Planning Committee meeting on August 4-th which will consider a rezoning application by owner Jim Sinclair. Meanwhile Sinclair is appealing a half-million dollar fine and four-month jail sentence on environmental charges, and has a court ordered cleanup of trenches he dug allowing toxic waste into the Bay of Quinte still outstanding.
