The recycling business at the derelict old Bakelite site….which is currrently littered with old wrecks and piles of scrap metal….is closing temporarily. The owner of the east-end waterfront property in Belleville says he’s voluntarily ceasing operations at B. Green Recycling. Sixty-nine-year old Jim Sinclair, who is currently appealing a half-million dollar fine and jail sentence for environmental crimes, says his scrap yard is closed until a zoning hearing August 4-th. In a press release issued this morning, a Marketing Consultant John Doggett is quoted as saying “seldom have I met anyone as passionate and diligent about protecting the environment as Mister Sinclair”. Sinclair was found guilty over the past year of almost two dozen charges for digging trenches at the old plastic factory and allowing PCB’s and other pollutants to flow into the Bay of Quinte. So far, city officials haven’t commented on the voluntary shutdown.
