The increasing deterioration of a bridge in Belleville’s Thurlow Ward has forced it to the top of the priority list for rehabilitation.
Two years ago Meggison’s Bridge, on Old Madoc Road, developed a hole; covered temporarily with a steel plate. Then again this spring the hole became larger and needed a larger steel plate. Officials say it’s safe to use but moved it from number 17-right up to number one on the list for attention. A request for proposals to design and administer the construction work brought four proposals. The lowest did not meet the city’s criteria and Council awarded the contract to the second highest, Sanchez Engineering at 62-thousand-790 dollars.
