The city of Belleville is throwing its support behind a move to stop the province from changing the policy on school bus contracts. Spokesman for independent school bus operators, Vaughan Richmond, told City Council last night that if the province goes to a method of “request for proposals” it will favour multi-national companies and put local operators out of business. Since the time-frame for opposition may be tight, council decided to express its opposition both through the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, and directly to the government.
