Plans are being prepared to turn the former Irish Hall in Belleville into a community Archives Centre.
The city bought the Irish Hall for the new centre with the idea it will be a shared venture with Hastings County and the Hastings County Historical Society. Chair Orland French says the society is working on plans with experts, and a great deal of the space will be for public research. The purchase, with a 275-thousand dollar price tag, closes at the end of this month. French hopes to have the Archives Centre open in January of next year.
