Paramedics are concerned if the emergency departments at the hospitals in Trenton and Picton were to close.
A new report from the Ontario Health Coalition, “Putting Patients at Risk,” says closures at those hospitals and others across the province will likely result in new costs, less access to ambulances, forcing paramedics to drive patients farther to get to an E-R, and longer offload delays in overcrowded emergency rooms.
Although there has been concern for several years about the futures of the E-R’s in Trenton and Picton, Quinte Health Care officials have promised they’ll stay open.
More than 50 paramedics, including some in the Quinte area, were intereviewed for the report.
