Our newsroom now has the report on proposed expropriation of land on Belleville’s Airport Parkway, which come down in favour of the city. Hearing officer Douglas Colbourne says the proposal to expropriate the five parcels of land, 600-acres, meets the tests in the Expropriation Act in that it is “fair, sound, and reasonably necessary in the achievement of the objectives” of the city. Mayor Neil Ellis says that attracting industry is a highly competitive business and to compete it needs affordable municipal lands. Ellis says it could still be two to three years before the land is serviced and ready to offer up to potential new industries.
