Prince Edward County Council won’t reconsider its decision to wait until a referendum in the next municipal election to deal with the issue of ward boundaries and the size of council.
Councillor Keith Macdonald told yesterday’s Committee of the Whole meeting he thought council should look at the matter, since an Ontario Municipal Board hearing will probably cost the county a minimum of 30-thousand dollars. The hearing would be in response to an appeal to the O-M-B by a local group that wants the structure of county government dealt with as soon as possible, and not during next year’s election.
However, Mayor Leo Finnegan says the majority of the committee rejected Macdonald’s suggestion, so there is no change in council’s strategy.
