It’s been in the pipeline for a long time, but last night, Prince Edward County Council voted to allow re zoning for an expanded Fields on West Lake, near Wellington. Neighbors had objected to the plans for 20 guest rooms, and spa facilities, worried about noise, water quality, and that the property was on prime agricultural land. In fact, Prince Edward County Planning staff recommended Council not approve the proposal because they believed it didn’t fit with Provincial Planning Guidelines. However, by a vote of 9 to 4, Council supported the plan, believing it would be good for the local economy, and provide much needed accomodations for tourists to the County. Neighbors may decide to take the matter to the Ontario Municipal Board.
