Belleville will take a look at the composition of city council, and whether or not the number of councillors should be changed. Councillor Jackie Denyes introduced the issue, indicating the city was developing northward and maybe Thurlow Ward could use a third councillor. Mayor Neil Ellis voted against the idea. He says council “looks at just one city” and “if it isn’t broke don’t fix it.” Under the Ontario municipal act a municipality may make changes, but to come into effect for the next election, the process would have to be completed by the end of this year.
