The Bay of Quinte Mohawks Band Council does not support the blockade of the Skyway Bridge near Deseronto.
Two dozen protestors from the Tyendinaga Territory began stopping traffic last night, supporting Akwesasne First Nations residents, who shut down the Seaway International Bridge border crossing near Cornwall to object to the arming of border guards..
Council told native activist Shawn Brant the Akwesasne leadership doesn’t want a sympathy blockade, because it might cause delays in getting the government to engage in discussions.
However, Tyendinaga Chief R. Donald Maracle has sent a request to Prime Minister Harper, urging senior federal officials to meet with the Akwesasne Mohawk Council to discuss a peaceful resolution of the guard dispute.
