Good economic news for the Quinte region. Norampac in Quinte West will be installing new wood residue boilers, at a cost of 18 million dollars. The boilers should be in operation by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, MPP Lou Rinaldi says his provincial government will kick in 3.3 million dollars of the total cost in an effort to protect local jobs, in a “green” way.
Norampac plant manager, JJ Davis, says the wood residue boilers will cut the plant’s energy costs significantly, keeping it competitive, and keeping 131 people employed.
Most Norampac workers had just returned to work after a long lay off.
