Belleville is looking at a library budget of one-point-eight million dollars…a three-percent hike over last year. But city council is urging the library to take an aggressive approach to fundraising, as other agencies do. Councillor Egerton Boyce says the new building has an impressive third floor gallery that should be used for big events, such as gala nights, that could bring in 20-to-50-thousand dollars. Chief librarian Mark Gagnon said these ideas would be taken back to the library board.
