It took a lengthy debate and a recorded vote but Belleville has decided to become “a sponsor” of a major Rotary fundraiser this summer. This means the city waived its 25-hundred dollar fee for the Market Square for the Rotary Loves Kids event. Rotary spokesman Bob Clute told council the club has given the city nearly 130-thousand dollars annually over the past six years to a number of programs for children, young adults and seniors. Councillor Jackie Denyes says this will “open the floodgates to others if we do this.” The city’s Rental Reduction Policy will be reviewed this year.
