Quinte Healthcare continues to reject union comments layoff notices have been issued to 45 Registered Nurses.
An Ontario Nurses Association official told our newsroom on thursday 80-thousand hours of R-N time would be affected at the bedside, with nurses being replaced by Registered Practical Nurses and Personal Support Workers.
However, Q-H-C Executive Director Bruce Laughton says notices have been sent out, and the problem is the interpretation of what a layoff is, since the term is used every time there is a change in staffing, even if no job is lost…
Laughton says Quinte Healthcare will try to avoid involuntary exits through transfers, early retirements and vacancies.
The reduction in R-N hours isn’t even part of Q-H-C’s cost-cutting measures to reduce a projected eight-million-dollar deficit.
