HIGH FIVE PRINCIPLES OF HEALTHY CHILD DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

This one-day training will help front-line leaders (anyone working with children aged 6 to12 " i.e. camp counselor, coach, swim instructor) improve the quality of programs. It provides in depth training in the HIGH FIVE®Principles of healthy child development so front-line leaders understand what they need to do to ensure each child’s social, emotional and cognitive needs are met. Leaders learn activities and gain knowledge, tips and resources to enhance their programs as well as their relationships with children and other staff members. Participants must be 15 years of age.

RED CROSS YOUTH LEADER CERTIFICATION

Youth Leaders support the Red Cross Youth First Aid Program through the delivery of the Stay Safe! and Babysitting courses. With the required prerequisites, candidates enter into this comprehensive Youth Leader Program, to prepare them to teach, facilitate and support dynamic, learner-centered classroom environments. This course consists of online learning modules (5-7 hours) and upon completion of this training, candidates must then successfully complete a teaching experience in a Red Cross Youth First Aid Program.

Prerequisites: 16 years of age and hold a current Standard First Aid & CPR ‘C’ certificate

RED CROSS BABYSITTING COURSE

This course is designed for youth 11-15 years old to learn first aid and caregiving skills for children in a variety of age groups, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. Students will receive a manual, and upon successful completion a wallet card and certificate. Students are asked to bring a pen, lunch, beverages and a doll or teddy bear for diapering.

Winter Jubilee

The Trenton Military Family Resource Centre and 8 Wing PSP are teaming up with the CFB Trenton Pond Hockey Classic on February 3 to host free winter activities for the military community and friends.

Families are invited to the Batawa Community Centre for the MFRC and PSP's third winter 'Jubilee' event. From 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., there will be winter indoor and outdoor activities for families and individuals with or without children to participate in. Guests are encouraged to dress for the weather and be prepared to get rosy cheeks from the fun outdoors!

Activities to enjoy:

• Ice skating

• Wagon rides

• Snowshoeing

• Indoor activities

• Live music by Andy Forgie

• Balloon animals by Cassio Believe

Lunch and beverages are available for purchase (cash only) but kids 15 years old and younger can enjoy a free hot dog or hamburger! There will also be free hot chocolate and s’mores provided by the Batawa Lion’s Club.

Tax Information Workshop

Quinte First Credit Union, in partnership with representatives from the Canada Revenue Agency, will be giving a workshop on tax filing at the Belleville Public Library on Tuesday, February 13 from 6-7:30. This workshop will cover the ins and outs of tax filing including discussing non-taxable income, taxes for the self-employed, tax benefits and credits, how to get help filing your taxes, and the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program. This free program requires no registration.

A New-York Organist in Concert at St. Thomas'

The artist-in-residence at St. John the Divine Cathedral in New York City and international concert organist David Briggs will give a recital at St. Thomas' Anglican Church in Belleville on Sunday afternoon, February 18th, as part of “Music at St. Thomas’.” Briggs will perform organ works by J.S. Bach. He is also well-known for his improvisations, and part of his programme will be dedicated to improvisation.

The concert will start at 4:30 PM. A reception will follow during which light refreshments will be served.

Bring your knitting, crochet, or other fibre craft project to this free drop-in program on the second floor of the library to work as a group, chat, and meet other knitters! Pink in the Rink

The Canadian Cancer Society in partnership with the Trenton Golden Hawks will be hosting Pink in the Rink February 23rd 2018, when they'll be facing the Wellington Dukes. The team will be wearing pink jerseys in support of the Canadian Cancer Society and women's cancer research. The game worn jerseys will be signed and auctioned off after the game, and much more fun. Don't forget to wear pink to the game!

Trivia & Treats

Join us for a fun filled evening of Trivia and Treats at the Royal Canadian Legion Trenton Branch on Friday February 23rd 2018. Doors open at 6:30, competition begins at 7:00 PM. It will be a fun filled night of trivia where teams of 8 compete for bragging rights and a sweet Trivia Champs Trophy.

Teams will also have the opportunity to compete for some delicious treats from local bakers in our live cake auction. These clever creations will be up for grabs throughout the night to help fuel your Trivia engines and satisfy your sweet tooth.

You may register as a team of eight or register individually and we will add you to a table. The cost is $20.00 per person for the trivia competition. Download the Signup Sheet and register through the Quinte Humane Society.

It all happens Feb 24th @ Loyalist College and we seeking out unique Potters/Crafters to create a Market Place. Also the Quinte Wood Turners will be demonstrating their skill. Empty Bowls

Welcome to our 2018 Empty Bowls event in support of local food banks within the Belleville and Quinte Area!

This event is a collective of food banks in Belleville, Stirling, Deseronto, Marmora, Bancroft, Picton, Wellington & Northbrook.

Empty Bowls showcases the art, crafts and pottery of local artisans to help promote the alleviation of hunger in our community. With supportive partners from the Loyalist College Culinary Program and a local chef from the Drake Devonshire, they will be crafting gourmet soup.

Event attendees are able to purchase a fine crafted potted or wooden bowl with their choice of delicious gourmet soup.

Author Visit - Mary Sharon Bailey
