"Nice Women Don't Want the Vote," an exhibit developed by the Manitoba Museum, is now open at Glanmore National Historic Site in Belleville, ON.

“Nice Women Don’t Want the Vote,” outlines the historical context of the Suffragist movement and commemorates the 100th anniversary of Manitoba women winning the right to vote. Although the exhibit specifically highlights the suffragist movement in Manitoba, Ontario was not too far behind, granting some women the right to vote in April 2017 through a bill put forward by Belleville resident and local Member of the Ontario Legislative Assembly, J.W. Johnson.

Come be part of the Knitterati! Belleville Public Library's social knitting circle "Knitterati" will return in January 2017. Bring your knitting, crochet, or other fiber craft project to this free drop in program on the second floor of the library to work as a group, chat, and meet other knitters! Just starting out and need a little help casting on? Don’t worry; your fellow knitters will be there to give you a hand or offer advice. OPENING RECEPTION

In honour of Canada’s 150th birthday, the Quinte Arts Council will promote the theme “A Canadian State of Mind” in the bi-annual juried show, Expressions. Awards presentations and opening reception will be on Thursday, May 4th from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Parrott Gallery. Everyone is welcome. Exhibition on display from May 4th to June 1st.

Salamander Shows

Join award-winning Salamander Conservationist Matt Ellerbeck (A.K.A The Salamander Man) for an insightful and educational presentation on salamanders! Spaces fill up fast! Register yourself and up to 3 guests today!

This event is part of an initiative started by the Foundation for the Conservation of Salamanders to raise awareness about salamanders, their habitats and their role in the ecosystem. To help with these efforts, Salamander Conservationist - Matt Ellerbeck will be providing two FREE presentations on the conservation of these animals on Friday May 5th at 3:00pm and 4:00pm at the Quinte Conservation office. The presentations will feature many live salamanders for visitors to meet, including both local and exotic species.

6th Annual HIke for Hospice Prince Edward

On Sunday, May 7, at 10 am, Prince Edward County will join thousands of people across the country, as they come together to raise funds for the community residential hospice, located at 40 Downes Avenue in Picton. Now in its 6th year in The County, Hike for Hospice Prince Edward will be held at the Prince Edward Community Centre and progressing down Picton’s Main Street.

Hikers, runners, strollers, ramblers, and wanderers are all welcome to join friends of Hospice Prince Edward at this national, pledge-based family event, to raise much needed funds to support people in our community who are living with progressive life limiting illness, their loved ones and caregivers.

Invisible Ribbon Online Auction

The Trenton MFRC is hosting their third Invisible Ribbon Online Auction as part of their Invisible Ribbon Gala campaign. The Online Auction will take place from May 1-8 through the online auction platform, ONit Canada. This platform allows any interested bidders to participate, the only requirement is that bidders must register (for free) with their full name, email address and phone number. Bidders will see a full description and colour photo of each item and they will receive a live notification to their email when they have been outbid on an item.

Opioid Information Session

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health is hosting a parent/caregiver information session at 6:30pm on Tuesday May 9th at Bridge Street United Church, to speak about the opioid situation in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties and to answer any questions or concerns parents/caregivers may have about keeping their children safe.

Presentations for the evening will include:

• An introduction and overview of opioids and illicit Fentanyl;

• an overview of Naloxone, Naloxone kits and opioid overdose;

• perspective from local police of what they’re seeing in our community and an overview of parental responsibility and liability when teens are partying in the home,

• how to talk to kids about substances and substance abuse; and lastly,

• community resources available to support teens and families in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.

Naloxone kits will also be available to those interested, and training to properly administer Naloxone will be provided with the kits.

The 13th Annual Invisible Ribbon Gala, sponsored by Scotiabank and hosted by the Trenton MFRC, will take place on May 13, 2017 at the National Air Force Museum of Canada. Fixed Fur Life has spayed and neutered 20,501 cats and dogs (110 bunnies in the Quinte area).

The Wellington District Lions Club together with the Trenton Lions, Belleville Lions, Foxboro Melrose and Napanee Lions are hosting the 1st annual Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides on Sunday, May 28. Register to walk or donate at PetValu Walk for Dog Guides and find the Belleville Quinte Walk. You can also pick up a pledge form at Pet Valu in Belleville, Trenton or Picton. All funds raised go directly to Dog Guides for the training and provision of dog guides for Canadians with disabilities. Come and join us with or without your own dog. Registration for the Walk begins at 10:00 at Pet Valu in Belleville on N. Front Street with the walk leaving from the store at 10:30. Special vendors will be on site as well. Knitterati social knitting circle

Come be part of the Knitterati! Belleville Public Library's social knitting circle "Knitterati" will return in January 2017. Bring your knitting, crochet, or other fiber craft project to this free drop in program on the second floor of the library to work as a group, chat, and meet other knitters! Just starting out and need a little help casting on? Don’t worry; your fellow knitters will be there to give you a hand or offer advice. The program is held every other Tuesday evening from 5:30-7:30pm on the second floor. No registration required. Dates: Jan. 10, 24; Feb. 7, 21; Mar. 7, 21; Apr. 4, 18; May 2, 16, 30; June 13, 27.

Moira Secondary School Presents Rock of Ages

Do you love 80’s rock? Moira Secondary School presents its musical theatre production of Rock Of Ages High School Edition featuring music by sweet 80’s bands such as Twisted Sister, Journey, Foreigner, Whitesnake and more. Show dates are Wednesday, May 31st to Saturday, June 3rd with doors opening at 6:30 pm and the show beginning at 7:00 pm.
