Cribs on the Creek in downtown Wellington was the scene of the official launch of Cain’s book, Unlucky in Love, Confessions of a Die Hard Romantic.
As guests enjoyed Prince Edward County food, baked goods, wine and beer, several guests paused to offer congratulations to the new author.
Sean Kelly, who works alongside Orlena and Alana Cameron on the MIX morning show, said he’d never met anyone with so much passion, energy, and commitment.
Kelly said Orlena told him she wanted to write a book about her life, a tumultuous one involving a troubled, abusive childhood, a couple of years ago.
He never thought much of the remark, “but two years later, here’s the book! Amazing!”
Bay of Quinte riding MP Neil Ellis praised Cain for her positive, can do approach to life. “You’ve prevailed through tough times all of your life. We look up to people like you.”
City of Belleville councillor Mitch Panciuk told the crowd that the Quinte region was “lucky to have a person like Orlena around.” Panciuk said it took a lot of courage to write about a difficult life, adding that people reading the book during tough times could turn their own lives around.
Outside of her radio work, Orlena Cain also owns “All Good Things”, a retail store at the Empire Theatre end of Front Street in downtown Belleville. She is an expert special events producer, and volunteers in many ways with the Highland Shores CAS and other children’s organizations.
