The Municipality of Tweed has lost this recent round in its bid to get senior government funding for a third sewage lagoon.
Tweed has been trying to build a $3 million third lagoon to allow for more development in the municipality.
Mayor Jo-Anne Albert says the Ministry of Environment will not allow the municipality to build a sewage treatment plant because of continuous discharge into the river.
Mayor Albert says Tweed just missed out on getting the funding and will “get back in the game” and apply for the grant again this fall.
The two present sewage lagoons, off Sulphide Road, discharge into the river, then the lake.
