It’s a lofty goal but one the United Way believes is more than achievable as they celebrate their 60th anniversary.

The United Way announced their 2018 campaign goal this morning (Thursday) at the Quinte Mall.

Executive Director Kathy Murphy says this is a goal they’ve reached before and she hopes they can do it again.

The theme for this year’s campaign is LOCAL LOVE, which Murphy says fits well in such a tight-knit community such as Hastings Prince Edward.

She says this goal ensures no one gets left behind.

Belleville Mayor Taso Christopher was presented with a United Way flag, along with Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison and Tyendinega Township Reeve Rick Phillips, and challenged those in attendance to begin workplace donations as a way to help raise funds for the United Way.

Murphy says payroll deductions make up most of their contributions.

Another way they raise funds is through their major fundraising event which this year will be held on November 17.

Murphy told Quinte News the theme for the Diamond Edition event is Bootlegger’s Bash which takes the area back to the days of prohibition and rum running on the Moira River.

Every dollar raised by the United Way stays local and supports agencies and individuals in the community.
