Man charged in New Year’s eve car theft

A man who is accused of stealing a car on New Year’s Eve in Belleville, has been charged.

Just before the ball dropped, officers were called to a Bell Boulevard parking lot, after a vehicle, which was left running was stolen.

The accused is said to have eaten at a nearby restaurant and left without paying minutes earlier.

The Ford Fusion was found abandoned on Mill Street in Stirling.

On Wednesday this week, 34-year-old Steven James Johnson of Belleville was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and driving while disqualified, among other charges.

He appears in court February 22nd.
