The Mayor of Quinte West says the municipality is going to fight and try to keep a company from closing its doors, and laying off staff.

Last week Quinte News broke word that Green Terra Homes, the creator of eco-friendly modular homes, laid off 80 employees, moving their operation from Trenton to Cobourg.

Company officials tell us they ran into some red tape with the municipality.

Mayor Jim Harrison says they want to sit down with the company this week.

He says they have to keep the building and staff safe and keep to safety standards, however Harrison says they want them to stay.

The company’s Operations Manager says they’re on track to hit $100 million in sales this year.
