Northumberland Quinte West MPP Lou Rinaldi remains optimistic that there will be funds in the upcoming federal budget to help alleviate local infrastructure and healthcare woes.
Monday Rinaldi updated Quinte West council on a meeting he had last week in Ottawa with Minister of Finance Bill Morneau and his federal counterparts MP Neil Ellis, MP Mike Bossio and MP Kim Rudd.
Rinaldi says he made a request to establish a fixed formula base when it comes to infrastructure so each municipality knows what they’re going to get so they can bank on it when planning upcoming projects.
Rinaldi told council how the Minister seemed to have an appetite for the idea.
Mayor Jim Harrison says its exactly what the municipality needs.
“We do the applications and we lose for some reason,” Harrison says. “If there was a dedicated amount that we could draw from or bank then we would know what we have come budget time.”
