“We won’t go away” was the sentence du jour at the first anniversary celebration of the
residents advocacy group OurTMH today.
About 60 people gathered at the new Trent Port Marina to celebrate the accomplishments of the volunteer membership.
OurTMH was congratulated by several speakers for keeping issues public that are threatening the survival of Trenton Memorial Hospital.
Co-Chair of the organization Mike Cowan thanked the community for making its first year a success.
Cowan added that the group will continue to make suggestions and watch developments closely as various politicians and others work toward bringing new services to TMH.
Northumberland Quinte West MPP Lou Rinaldi praised the hard work and dedication of OurTMH and described ongoing efforts to create a healthcare hub at Trenton hospital, and confirmed that the federal Liberals were still planning to open two new Veterans Centres in the country soon. It’s hoped one of those will be opened at Trenton Memorial.
Meanwhile, Prince Edward Hastings MPP Todd Smith was happy that OurTMH had no plans to “go away.”
And Mayor of Quinte West Jim Harrison called OurTMH an “amazing group of people, who are unbelievably dedicated and hard-working.”
Mayor Harrison also said they had great ideas and those ideas were being listened to.
Also speaking at the celebration was Stuart Wright, a member of the Quinte Healthcare Board of Directors. He said OurTMH was an amazing example of democracy and the great things dedicated citizens could accomplish together.
