It’s not their first trade of the year, but it’s definitely their biggest. The Belleville Bulls have dealt Belleville native Jason Shaw to the Saginaw Spirit while obtaining another 20 year old rearguard, Jake Cardwell from Ottawa as part of a 3 team deal.
Cardwell immediately becomes Belleville’s top scorer with 3 goals and 13 points in 17 games and helps a power play that has lingered near the bottom of the OHL. 12 of Cardwell’s points have come with the man advantage. Belleville sends a third round pick this year and a 2nd and 5th next year to Ottawa.
Shaw had 4 assists in a defensive role this year. The Bulls receive a 7th round draft. General Manager George Burnett says it was a difficult trade to make in view of Shaw’s contribution to the team over the last 14 months but adds that tough decision had to be made.
