According to a local report, the Quinte Symphony is dissolving.
Sun Media is reporting the board voted to close the group after 52 years of playing in the area.
The report says the symphony has been running a multi-year deficit.
In the article, President Lisa Kemp says shrinking audiences and lack of municipal support have been major factors for the closure.
It’s believed the group will hold a farewell concert in the fall.

Well, I had no idea a Quinte Symphony even existed. I would have checked them out if I knew when/where they were playing. But I guess it’s too late now.
The fact they had no municipal support doesn’t surprise me. Belleville tends to say they are friendly with the fine arts, but when it comes time to pony up it’s the old cheque-is-in-the-mail story and then they don’t answer the door for a couple months.
