It’s close, but results of a QuinteNews poll show people seem to be siding with the mother of an un-vaccinated young girl who was refused care at Trenton Memorial Hospital.
The mother says she and the girl’s father object to immunizations, but doctors in the province are allowed to refuse care if children are un-vaccinated.
49% of respondents feel doctors should not be able to refuse care, while 46% believe the doctor should have the choice.
Another 5% were undecided on the issue.

We need to get this city educated if they think that the dr/hospital is in the wrong turning this child away.
The dr needs to protect themselves as well as other patients.
Who knows maybe the dr was pregnant – who knows what this child could be carrying – who knows what this child could pick up while at the hospital.
I understanding the child did not chose to not be immunized but if a parent choose not to immunize their children they should know that this could happen.
Educate yourself before you make life altering choice for your children!
Agreed. Most people don’t see beyond the “Oh no, the doctor refused to treat the child!!”… There are so many other factors, including protecting themselves, their coworkers, and the many other sick and hurt people in the hospital.
The problem here is that QHC has to sit back and listen to everyone speculate about all the details which are involved. Meanwhile the mother gets to to go the media and give her version of events.
These comments don’t make sense to me. If you believe in vaccinations, and the doctor is vaccinated, how is an unvaccinated child a threat??
I voted yes but only because I wouldn’t want a doctor that doesn’t support choice anyway.
Valid arguments but you two are forgetting that Doctors, like Police Office must swear an oath to protect. I would find it difficult to believe that in that oath there is some ammendment to people who dont have immunizations, that’s rediculous.
Any immagrant would reserve health care under immagrant status from countries that don’t have immunization by-laws.
What makes you think a parent who chooses not to vaccinate their child is uneducated? It is actually quite the opposite! A parent who chooses this for their child(ren) is usually well informed and educated on the matter. This parent has chosen not to simply accept what they are told but take it upon themselves to look into what is best for their child so they can make an INFORMED decision! Frankly, let the doctor turn my unvaccinated child away! This is not a doctor I want anywhere near my child!
something the two previous people may want to consider…In Ontario we have a right to health care.. Vaccines are not mandatory in Ontario. The medical profession leads people to believe they are but they are not. Vaccines do save lives but they also take lives..Many children have died or become damaged as a result of a vaccine and parents are not being informed of the risks or that their child could die as a result of the vaccine. There are many organizations formed as a result of that…here is the link for one http://vran.org/health-risks/…Therefore is it right to refuse medical treatment who has not broken the law…all these parents have done is exercise their right in Canada. If Canadians have aa right to medical treatment and vaccines are not mandatory due to the health risks of the vaccines then why should they be refused medical treatment…
I side with the doctor in this case. I have many children – all of whom are fully immunized as per the public immunization schedule. I understand we have choices in this awesome advanced country of ours, but some things just make sense – like protecting our children, other peoples children, and the general public from outbreaks of preventable diseases. I think it’s selfish to not immunize simply based on one’s own “personal beliefs”; I believe immunizations should be mandatory unless there are allergies or other medically compromising situations that could arise from immunization. (They exist for a reason!) The doctor had every right to refuse treatment.
