Plans to renovate the entrance to a social housing building in Trenton have been put on hold.
The Hastings-Quinte Social Services department plans to do nearly 60-thousand dollars worth of work at the Dundas Street building, but decided against including a lift for the stairwell because of the cost.
Belleville Councillor Garnet Thompson told the Social Services Joint Committee he was concerned about accessibility at the facility, especially for seniors.
Thompson says it’s time to look at accessibility when renovating buildings because the province will soon be making it mandatory.
The matter has been put on hold awaiting a staff report on the exact cost of the lift for people with disabiities, and clarification on accessible parking at the facility.
