Quinte West firefighters were out in full force this afternoon fighting grass fires along the railway tracks between Trenton and Brighton.
First reports indicated the fires apparently started when flames shot out from a CP train setting the grass on fire but CP officials say that did not happen.
CP spokesman Kevin Hrysak says the train was inspected and showed no signs of fire. He says the investigation continues.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whelan says he had numerous 911 calls in the noon hour about the fires.
He shut down both CN and CP lines since they are so close together.
Chief Whelan says he has a full contingent of Quinte West firefighters on the scene…48 firefighters… some walking the tracks with firefighting packs, others on three ATVs.

so sparks flew from one of the worn bearing on one of the track wheels, does that mean cp or cn get the bill? So that tax payers don’t foot the bill of all the volunteers?
