It may come as a surprise, but even with the recent extreme heat, residents of Belleville are still using less water than they did last year.
In July last year, the Belleville Water Treatment Plant provided 24.9 million litres to the city per day, while this year it’s only supplying 24.6 million litres.
Plant Superintendent Perry DeCola says the citizens of Belleville have done a great job conserving water by using low flow toilets, water conserving shower heads and by not “wasting” water in general.
DeCola says water consumption dropped sharply in 2011 from 2010…. by almost 200 million litres.
