Troubled intersection gets traffic lights

A troubled intersection on the boundary of Belleville and Quinte West finally has a set of traffic lights.
Quinte West councillor, Paul Kyte, helped spearhead the effort to get lights installed at the corner of Wallbridge-Loyalist Rd. and Moira St. W.
Kyte says what’s been a dangerous spot in the past is safer for drivers as of today.
Kyte says the project came in under the budgeted amount of $100,000. Both cities on the boundary roads will share the cost of the project.
Kyte says the traffic lights were needed for years and were prompted last winter by a string of accidents at that intersection.

While it is hoped that the addition of traffic lights here will reduce the number of collisions, the southbound flashing amber ‘traffic light ahead’ warning sign on the rail overpass is much too close to the actual intersection lights, and actually detract from the actual traffic signals themselves. It needs to be much further back for maximum effectiveness.
I can’t help but think a traffic circle would have done a better job.
