Incidents of crime in Belleville during the first quarter of 2012 have been just about on par with the start of 2011.
The Belleville Police service reported it’s first quarter crime stats to the Police Services Board this morning.
In total there were just over 1, 400 actual crimes reported through the first three months of this year… that’s compared with just over 1, 200 in 2011, and works out to a 19% increase.
Belleville police have cleared 58% of cases so far this year.
A closer look at the numbers shows slight increases in break and enters, domestic disturbances, assaults and vehicle thefts, while there were significant decreases in motor vehicle collisions and fraud cases.

19% is not “just about on a par with” previous year’s stats!! This is a troubling increase considering the crimes being committed.
Someone should take a look into the fact that police had 1400 calls in 3 months and then look at how many calls fire fighters had in those 3 months and then compare salaries!!!!! It’s gross! Just saying
@Evan: Comparing police calls to fire calls is like comparing apples and oranges – not the same at all.
