Kids love Cheezies, and they love to play on the swings and other playground equipment.
And, yesterday at Belleville council, it was announced that the late James Edward Marker, owner of Belleville’s Hawkins Cheezies, donated $100,000 to the city.
The money is to be used to buy playground equipment for city parks.
Marker died on May first at the age of 90.

What a generous and thoughtful man. Many children and families will benefit from his generosity. Thank you so much.
This is wonderful news. There are many parks in the area that could use this funding… the first coming to mind being Haig Park, located on Haig Road across from Brimley Court. This park has been in a state of disrepair for some time, and the few remaining items are not even safe for children. I wonder how Belleville Council will determine how to utilize the funds?
Good news, what a generous man. Let’s hope 100% of the funds go toward the proper places and not someones pocket.
